The Minnesota Nano Center, or MNC, is a state-of-the-art facility for interdisciplinary research in nanoscience and applied nanotechnology.

The Center offers a comprehensive set of tools to help researchers develop new micro- and nanoscale devices, such as integrated circuits, advanced sensors, microelectromechanical systems (MEMS), and microfluidic systems. The MNC is also equipped to support nanotechnology research that spans many science and engineering fields, allowing advances in areas as diverse as cell biology, high performance materials, and biomedical device engineering.

The labs and tools of the Minnesota Nano Center are open to all qualified users. We welcome researchers from industry and other academic institutions. Use this site to learn about the MNC and the nanotechnology research advancing at the University of Minnesota, and find out how we can support your research and development efforts!

Have a Project?

The tools and labs of the Nano Center are open for use by all trained and qualified users. We also do custom projects in the areas of microdevices, nanoparticles, and biomedical applications of nanotechnology.

Keller Hall Cleanroom Shutdown

Begins September 18

The Keller cleanroom and Areas 1-3 will close at 7AM on Monday, September 18 for work on the mechanical systems supporting the Keller cleanroom. The work will be done by Facilities Management staff. Normally the work is completed such that the cleanroom can re-open sometime on Wednesday of that week. Watch for updates, and please plan your work accordingly. Note that the PAN cleanroom and labs will be open during this time.

We apologize for the inconvenience.

Upcoming Lab Orientations

Orientation sessions for the Keller cleanroom are held twice a month, on the first Wednesday (1 - 2 PM) and the third Thursday (10 -11 AM). Check with the MNC office in PAN 140 to confirm the day and time of the next orientation.

Orientation sessions for the PAN cleanroom are scheduled as demand requires, and are announced via web and email. Check with the MNC office in PAN 140 to confirm the day and time of the next PAN cleanroom orientation.

If you plan on using just the Nanomaterials or Bio-Nano labs, you need not attend these orientations. Schedule a lab orientation and training session directly with Jim Marti.
